Even though London is preparing for the Summer Olympic Games of 2012, there is no motive not to go to see the city nowadays. In London you buy many sights, superb shopping and pulsing nightlife. Even great food can be seen in the capital.
The London Eye is a new and very remarkable attraction. You can find the meter (443 feet) tall Ferris wheel between Waterloo and Westminster Bridge. The wheel was planned to open the 31th of December 1999, but the public was not allowed before March 2000 because of technical problems.
The 32 cabins on the wheel have room for 25 people each. It is a very well-liked sight; and because one rotation takes about 30 minutes, you can be expecting long queues in the tall season. But the view from the highest point over the central London (including Big Ben and the House of Parliament) is worth the waiting.
A much older attraction is the Tower of London. Its past is 900 years old and very bloody. When the prisoners walked through the Traitors Gate, they shouldnt expect to get out living. Most of them were killed by torture or rats; or just executed.
These days the rats have gone; and the torture and executions stopped. And the prisoners have been replaced with travelers study all the ceremonies. One of the most exciting is the Ceremony of the Keys. At exactly 9.52 pm the chief of the guards hands over the keys to the chief of the night watchmen.
You can find many interesting places on a Tower of London trip; including the royal apartment house and the dungeons. But what most persons buy most exciting is the Jewel House with the British crown jewels. Here you can experience the scepter of the sovereign with the worlds largest diamond Star of Africa.
Other remarkable sight in London involves the 106 meter (348 feet) tall Big Ben, the St. Pauls Cathedral and Westminster Abbey. Do also take a leisurely walk in Hyde Park and experience all the famous art riches in British Museum.
A must do in London is persons watching. In the capital you can see everything from punkers with safety pins through their noses and cock's combs to businessmen with bowler hat sand stiff upper lips.
Do you think it is not possible to find fantastic food in London? Well, it is not; and you do not have to consume fish and chips. Both Gordon Ramsey and Jamie Oliver have eating places in London, so you can buy very excellent food. But it does not have to be costly. London is a melting pot of multi-ethnic citizens, so it is also possible to buy low-priced and exotic cooking in many of the international restaurants in the city.
London is also a perfect place to shop. The famous department store Harrods even brags about that they can supply everything you require. Stuff for your house can be seen in Designers Guild (wallpaper and fabric) and Muji (Japanese design). For something to the children, you should pay a visit Hamleys of Regent Street; a six story toyshop
